Bastar Monuments »


The seventy years old building which still stands in the state of Chhattisgarh, is the palace named Bastar Palace. This palace is the residence for the royal family. The palace is located in Jagdalpur which comes under the district headquarters of Bastar State. This palace does not allow for the accommodation for the visitors who visit but the palace serves the visitors with the meals. One part of the palace today has been rehabilitated into medical college.

If we have to discuss about the most significant archaeological site of Chhattisgarh, then the Fort of Malhar is the most prominent one for this discussion. It is actually situated in the centre of the historical town of Malhar in the district of Bilaspur. The location selected for the establishment of the Malhar Fort is an extraordinary one. The western part of the site is surrounded by the river Arpa, while the southern and the eastern part are guarded by the Shivanath and Lilagar rivers respectively.



The fort however, was guarded by the gorges, on all the sides, including all the four side. The doorways to the fortress, comprises of four entrance gateway which were named as; the Singh, Ganesh, Bhairav, and the Semar darvars. To the entrance of the fort the sculpture of the valiant King is presumed to be installed. The sculpture was prepared of the huge stones, and today the head and the feet of the sculpture remains and the other parts of the sculpture is decayed or worn out due to the natural calamities.

The fort located in the summit of the Mekaal Mountains, is the Chaiturgarh Fort. It is present in Korba-Bilaspur road, in Korba district, Chhattisgarh. The Chaiturgarh Fort is also popularly known as the Lafagarh fort, and this fort is positioned in about 19 kilometer, and is at the height of 3060 feet. The strong walls surrounding the boundaries are for the defense of the fort, and therefore it is considered as one of the strongest forts of all the forts.
