Chandrabadni Devi Temple is an ancient Hindu Goddess temple located at the Tehri Garhwal District of Uttrakhand District in India. It is a mountain temple at an altitude of 2277 meters from the mean sea-levels of Garhwal regions in the greater Himalayan Mountain Ranges. This is one of the holy places for the Hindus to visit once in a life time as per the mythical beliefs.

Chandrabadni Devi Temple Religious Significance

Chandrabadani Devi Temple is an important worship place for the Hindus. This Goddess is known to be very powerful and many devotees come here with lot of penance. This Devi is the favorite goddess for Hindu women's. Visiting here will purify ones wrong deeds of the past. The daily poojas are performed here and many do come to perform separate rituals from this temple. The shivasim believes that the Parvathi Devi is an incarnation of Chandrabadani Devi as Lord Shiva re created her.

Festival at Chandrabadni Devi Temple

The annual festival is conducted here in the month of March, it is known as the Mela (Fair). Many devotees rush here to make it a grand festival from across the country. The annual Haridwar pilgrimage which starts for June and ends in September is always seen with lakhs of devotees arriving at this temple. This is known as the pilgrim season of the Himalayas for the Hindu beliefs.

Chandrabadni Devi Temple Mythology & History

There is a great ancient legend behind this Chandrabadani Devi. It is known as one of the Siddha Peetha in the Hindu beliefs. As per the Vedic Texts, Lord Shiva was not called for a ceremonial rituals conducted by his father-in-law named Prajapathi. But Lord Shiva sent her wife Sathi Devi to attend the rituals. On arriving at ritual place she found all heavenly Gods were present there except his husband who is called a Universal God. She questioned here father and asked the reason for not inviting him, her father replied here that he never accepted him as a God. By this she got angry and for the respect and honor of her husband she self emulated herself by jumping in to the ritual fire place to stop this ritual. Knowing this great sacrifice, lord Shiva came down to Earth and picked her in his trident and walked towards his abode on the Himalayas. On his way to the Himalaya Mountains, few parts of her body fell down from the trident. Where the body parts of Sathi Devi were fallen is known called as the Siddha Peetha in Hinduism. This is considered to be a holy place and this temple was built here to honor her.

Chandrabadni Devi Temple Architectural Significance

Chandrabadani Devi Temple is an ancient temple that was built over stages of time. Since the ancient days it was merely a small stone structure with the Devi's idol and few tridents placed there. The present shape of this temple is found in the modern structure. It is built in the North-India architectural style. It is built on the top of a mountain which is at 7074 feet height from the sea-level. The entrance of this temple is found with a slop steps. The start of these steps are adjoined with two lioness statues built here as the guards. First structure you see is the temple bells hanged on a stone pillars. One can find many tridents placed on the temple grounds which are the procession of Lord Shiva. The temple is a cute square type building with a conical tower on it. On the adjacent side there are few complexes are there. The main deity of the Chandrabadani Devi idol is very cute to look, which is carved out of a monolith stone.
