Ghati Subramanya Temple in Doddaballapur is an important Hindu temple in Bangalore City. It is one of the three ancient temples of Subramaniya Swamy found here. It has a long standing history and was rebuild by Sandur Rulers in the medieval period. This is the area in Bangalore were the peoples from Tamil Nadu has made settlements. This temple is also found in the Dravidian model. This is a great pilgrim place for Vaishniviks and for all other sects of Hindu peoples. It is beautifully located at Doddaballapura Town, Bangalore City of Karnataka State in India.

Ghati Subramanya Temple Religious Significance

Ghati Subramanya Temple is the only place to see the Lord Subramaniya and Lord Narashima in one garbhagraha. The deities are facing east and west directions. Lord Narashima is facing west, either back side of Subramaniya Swamy and can be seen at the same time in a mirror focusing this idol for its devotees standing in the main grabhagraha areas. This temple is known for the powers of blessing the unmarried persons to get married soon and couples with infertility problems are blessed with children's. The temple pond named as the Kumara Thirtha is familiar to cure Skin Diseases and devotees take bath from this pond on their visit to this temple. It is also know for the Free Food distribution called as Nithya Annadhana. A daily lunch is provided to its devotees and for the needy peoples like poor's. This temple performs its daily poojas to its devotees. This temple is visited by its nearby and passer by peoples to get blessed from this Swamy before venturing their daily works. Thus the temple carry immense religious importance and with immense faith the temple is widely known among the devotees, who come here with the faith of being blessed by the deity.

Ghati Subramanya Temple Mythology & History

It was believed that there were many Demons ruling these areas and its local tribal peoples prayed to lord Narashima to come down and destroy these Demons. As per their prayers, Lord Narashima came to this place and totally destroyed those Demons. Later the tribal's built here a small temple to honor this Subramaniya Swami in the ancient times.

Festival at Ghati Subramanya Temple

There are five major festival conducted here. These are Pushya Suddha Shasti held in the months of December-January, The Narashima Jayanthi is grandly celebrated here as per star of Subramaniya falls on the Hindu calendar. Skanda Shasti is celebrated for the well being of all and this temple and attracts many devotees here. The Panghuni Uttiram is the marriage day of this main deity and special poojas are performed. The Vaikashi Vishakam is also an important festival and is celebrated with great pomp and show with participation of the locals as well as the devotees from all around.

Ghati Subramanya Temple Architectural Significance

Ghati Subramanya Temple is purely built on the pattern of Dravidian architecture. The main entrance of this temple is built with a Raja Gopura (Obelisk Tower) having 5 stories on it. These are having the finest motifs and miniature curving on these giant granite stone towers. From the entrance one can see other tow small towers which are placed over the main deity of this temple known as the Grabha Graha (sanctum sanctorum) the entire temple is fenced with stone walls. The outside of this temple entrance there is a Sarpa Sanadhi, were lord Subraminiya's small sculptor is placed under the Serpents hood, which is having 10 heads. Inside the temple is also having 1000 of Serpent idols carved on single stones and places around a giant People tree. The inside complex is a uniquely carved rectangular shaped grabhagraha which is having the main deity of Lord Subramaniya and Narashima; these are believed to be a self originated stones sculptures. This garbhagraha is having a stone roof and are supported with beautifully carved monolith stone pillars. There is a silver made Serpent idol placed nearby this main deity. It is having a huge pole for temple flag hoisting and a temple pond built out of granite stone blocks.
