The Javari Temple is a particular holy shrine of the Hindus that is located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The temple is specifically located in the region of Chattarpur district of the state which is a small village. The temple is among the most important part of the UNESCO world heritage site i.e. the Khajuraho group of temples. The temple has been well preserved and managed by the Khajuraho temple management group over the years of its existence.

Javari Temple Religious Importance

The temple has a rich religious history associated with it. It has been established specifically for the worship of the Hindus of different parts of the state and the country. The temple accommodates Lord Vishnu as the primary deity and thus it attracts devotes of the lord. The history of the temple goes 1000 years back to the days when the temple was established in the late 10th century. The temple that is located in the eastern part of the Khajuraho group of temples is at a distance near to the other Vishnu temple of the region. The name of the temple resembles with the owner of the land in which the shrine has been built. The land was a devotes of Lord Vishnu and its different avatars and likewise he dedicated the land for establishing a shrine for the local people that will worship only Lord Vishnu and his different avatars. The structure of the temple is entirely based on the different avatars of the Lord. Every year the temple worship Lord Vishnu as per the Hindu mythology and during that period people from different parts of the world visit the temple in large number. People also make large or bulk offering to the lord on fulfilment of their wishes.

Javari Temple Mythology & History

As said the temple is based upon the Hindu god i.e. Lord Vishnu and its different avatars. It is believed as per the Hindu mythologies and Puranas that Lord Vishnu has several avatars which include Vamana and boar incarnation among the prime. Notably, during his boar incarnation Lord Vishnu incarnated to a body of half human and half lion in order to fight a demon that was destroying the earth. During this period he visited the earth and saved it from the demon. Again another avatar of the lord i.e. Vamana intends to save the earth from the Bali and give the authority of the same to the Lord Indra. The influence of all these avatars and incarnation of the lord can be seen in the architecture and structure of the Lord.

Javari Temple Architectural Importance

Architecturally, the temple is one of the most beautiful in India. It has been made with sandstones, marbles and other elements that were being found during the late 10th century. The temple has numerous gates with each one of them well decorated as per the structural significance of the Khajuraho group of temple. The temple has been established in quite a large area and one can find many vacant spaces within the surrounding of the temple. It has been learnt that the interior and exterior of the temple is decorated with sculptures of lord Vishnu and his different avatars during his visit on the earth. Erotic sculptures and carvings on the interior and exterior wall of the temple is also one of the significant parts of architecture of the temple. Altogether, it can be regarded as visual treat for devotes.
