Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Gudi is located in the sub-town named Edupayala, in Nagasanpalli, in Papannapet Mandal, in the district of Medak, in the state of Telangana, in Southern India. It is just 18km from medak, 112km from Hyderabad and 140 km from Nizamabad. This temple is locally known as Edupayala Vanna Durga Bhavani Gudi because it is situated amidst dense forest area in this region. The principal deity of this hill shrine is Goddess Durga Bhavani. It is located near the border of the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. This hill shrine is visited by adherent devotees belonging to the four states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Temple Religious Significance

The idol of Edupayala Durga Bhavani Gudi contains unique natural stone formations. It is to be highly noted that the village name Edupayalu literally means "seven streams", as this shrine is located where the River named Manjeera splits into seven streams that later perfectly reunite at a different spot. The particular place is best known for its natural beauty plus unique formation of stones. This is also the spot from where the river Manjeera is divides into seven streams. The Telugu language word 'Edupayalu' when rightly translated means seven streams. According to a local legend, a King named Janamejya, who was the direct grandson of the great epic figure Arjuna, who largely performed the 'Sarpayagam'. This particular yagna is strongly believed to be performed at this spot during those days. It is to be remembered that a few decades before when a bridge was to be constructed in the beds of the Manjeera River, construction workers found a thick layer of dark black colored ash was found buried deep. People believe that having bath in the seven rivulets will bless them for leading a better personal and professional life. People also scarify cow and hen at this temple as thanks giving after getting their wishes fulfilled in a satisfactory manner.

Edupayala Durga Bhavani Gudi belongs to 12th century. This shrine is built as per the ancient Hindu hill temple architectural style and pattern. The fleet of steps is beautifully carved towards the main sanctum. There are sub-temples in the surrounding of this main shrine. It is to be noted that these sub-temples are equal distance from the main temple. The temple structure is small in size with towers of moderate height. The walls and pillars of these temples have images of local Gods and Goddesses. The prayer hall is small in size that accommodates a few devotees and pilgrims.

The temple's specialty is that it is perfectly formed with the names of seven sages who are really famous in the mythology of India and the names are Gowtama, Jamadagni, Kasyapa, Atri, Viswamitra, Bharadwaja and Vasistha. Edupayala Durga Bhavani Gudi celebrates a feast every year during the day of Shiva Ratri plus the feast is named as Edu Payala jaatara.
